His originality runs very deep: In his major work, 'A New Critique of Theoretical Thought', he carefully showed demonstrated how all the major streams of (Western) philosophy and theoretical thinking since the ancient Greeks ended in severe antinomies. But it can be easy to demolish; he then took the challenge of constructing and proposing a new approach which questions assumptions held by thinkers for millenia.
Is his approach useful? Early signs suggest promise: it seems to answer easily some problems that conventional thinking cannot, and it seems to accord with people's natural or intuitive grasp of what is around them, and thus can be relatively easy to pick up. I like it. And, it seems extremely useful. But we will not know until it has been properly understood, developed and applied, all three processes happening simultaneously so that they enrich each other. However, though easy to grasp at first, such a radically different approach requires some work to fully understand it.
Therefore I have set up these Dooyeweerd Pages to aid such understanding. They are far from complete, and designed to be under continual development. So far, the bulk of material concerns Dooyeweerd's aspects of reality. Go there. An important part of this is functioning.
A new page on Science. New page on Diversity started.
An overview of Dooyeweerd's ideas looks at a number of things, including:
There is some discussion of how these ideas can complement Checkland's Soft Systems Thinking.
Also an aspectual analysis of mutual help within marriage.
A short bibliography is being compiled.
However, I am 'gatekeeper' for the pages. Any discussion that I believe is helpful to a developing understanding of what Dooy was getting at, or to pointing to areas where his ideas require further development, will tend to be included, often with annotations of my own and especially hypertext linkings to relevant other parts. (Because the views of the gatekeeper can affect the content, you have a right to know my own views and opinions so that you can adjust for them.)
I trust you find them helpful. Others have, for a variety of reasons Let me know, to "Dooy @ basden . u-net . com".
